Our group officially became a chapter member of the Prime Timers World Wide, Inc. organization in January of 2003.
We owe our beginnings and roots to our member Bob Jones. Whom in the latter part of 2002, reached out through friends to tell them about a social/educational national organization called Prime Timers World Wide that was made up of local chapters.
As Bob explains it “I felt Richmond was in need of such a chapter. We had a meeting at [PBS] Channel 23 Central Virginia Educational TV. I don’t recall the date. It was around September of 2002. Asking friends to tell friends about the meeting. I was amazed that 18 guys showed up to hear about the idea. There was a positive attitude from all. We started with the 18 and built from there. In January of 2003, we had our 1st official meeting as a chapter of Prime Timers Worldwide, at St Marks Episcopal Church on the Boulevard in Richmond. The first Board and Officers were elected at this meeting to get the chapter going.”.
To keep things fun and interesting, we survey our members about their interests and from their responses, we support our members in forming new special interest groups and activities, which our members organize and run. Besides the many various weekly and monthly activities that our members enjoy, our members also enjoy member only discount tickets for the local Richmond Triangle Players live theater, go to movies and museums, pot luck dinners and picnics. Other possible shared interest groups could include Antiques, Gardening, Cooking, Sports, Investment, and Discussion Groups. These groups form and evolve solely by the interest and actions of our members.
