NC Transportation Museum | The museum that moves you!

June 13

NC Transportation Museum | The museum that moves you!

We’re planning a daytrip to the NC Transportation Museum, Spencer, NC, for Friday, June 13, 2025. Please Carpool. You can review members attending on your Punchbowl invite. Below is the link to their website with helpful information and ticket prices based on your selected experience for the day.

NC Transportation Museum | The museum that moves you!    Admission ONLY for the museum is $6 for Adults and $5 for Seniors (65+); Admission and the Train Ride is $16 for Adults and $14 for Seniors

Member, Jim Fetchero, has been associated with the NC Transportation Museum for many years and has graciously volunteered to be our personal tour guide for the day. Below is our recommended itinerary.

We recommend arriving no later than 9:30 AM on Friday, June 13th. Attendees will purchase your tickets at the entrance based on your preference of riding the train or only touring the museum. Our meeting point is right next to the parking lot and is the restored train station called “Barber Junction”. You should go inside and pay your admission and train ride as you arrive. There are not any group rates.

Morning Activities

Those purchasing a train ride will remain at “Barber Junction” and board for the short train ride at 10 am. Those only touring the museum may begin your self-guided tour at any time and should meet the train ride group at the roundhouse (See F on the attached map) to take the guided tour with Jim and the group back towards the front picnic area where we will have lunch.

Lunch

It is recommended you bring a light picnic lunch as there is only vending machines for beverages and light snacks onsite. However, if you prefer to go out for lunch, there is a Subway, Bojangles, and Food Lion just up the street. You may reenter the museum and join us at the picnic area. The picnic tables for lunch are outdoors in a pavilion, with a roof, but no air conditioning.  They are near the parking lot and restrooms.

Afternoon Activities

We will tour the James Duke private rail car at 1 PM or 3 PM depending on your schedule and expect to wrap up the day after either tour.

If you have questions, please email Jim or Ralph at jfetch@aol.com or ralphmorrison@comporium.net.

Most of the day does involve a lot of walking and standing and you should be prepared for summer heat. This event is not recommended if you have mobility or health limitations.
