It’s Movie Night at Jim and Sam’s in Leawood!

It’s the much beloved Two-Fer Movie Night at Sam and Jim’s in Leawood! Two movies will be shown simultaneously in their spacious residence and you can choose which one appeals to you.

Upstairs we will see the 1959 movie “Some Like It Hot” (OK so it is in Black and White), staring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. It runs for 120 minutes. Set in the Prohibition era, the film is about two musicians (Curtis and Lemmon) who disguise themselves as women to escape Chicago mobsters they witnessed commit murder. This The film received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, winning for Best Costume Design.

Downstairs we will see “HIDDEN MASTER: THE LEGACY OF GEORGE PLATT LYNES“. This is an interesting and entertaining documentary on several levels. First, it shows what gay life was like through the 1930s up until the mid-1950s when George died. Second, the film contains many photos of beautiful nude men, back and front with a few erections. The film runs for 95 minutes. It gets a 100% favorable review on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6 rating on IMDB.SYNOPSIS: The life and legacy of pioneering artist George Platt Lynes, who took radically explicit photographs of the male nude. The documentary reveals Lynes’ gifted eye for the male form, his long-term friendships with Gertrude Stein and Alfred Kinsey, and his lasting influence as one of the first openly gay American artists. The film contains interviews with some of his still surviving subjects and friends.
