But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that.\nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. DESCRIPTION:Ah\, the appeal of Pegah’s in Shawnee. Sure\, the food is pretty darn good and plentiful. Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that.\nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. Now Stroud’s award winning fried chicken came about because during WW II\, beef was rationed and Helen Stroud started serving pan-fried chicken. The original chicken dinner was only $.35! Now\, of course\, Stroud’s has garnered multiple awards including the prestigious James Beard honorific. But by now you’re thinkin’ enough with the typing! DESCRIPTION:All stories—even great ones—must come to an end. The Arabia Steamboat Museum will be closing its doors November 2026 after over 30 years in Kansas City. But before they leave\, let’s venture down to the River Market and explore this fascinating place. \nWhen the The Arabia sank in September 1856 she carried 200 tons of mystery cargo. Lost for 132 years\, its recovery in 1988 was like finding the King Tut’s Tomb of the Missouri River. The discovery was truly a modern day treasure-hunting story at its best. Even if you’ve explored this museum\, it’s worth another visit. And\, if you’re a newcomer it’s a must-see\, enormous exhibit. Plus we have the Farmers Market all around us and that is always a joy to explore.\nThis will be a fun PTKC outing. As the event nears we’ll discuss modes of travel (street car anyone?)\, where to meet and dining options. Trust me\, you’ll have a great afternoon so join us! And\, guys?
