We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. In 1905\, Strang purchased 600 acres south of Kansas City and adjacent to present day Metcalf Avenue and 80th Street. Fast forward 120 years and that brings us to Strang Hall. Today it’s a collective of five chef-driven eateries under one roof. Check out the video to get a sense of this fine establishment. DESCRIPTION:So\, before we chat about bridge\, did you know that contract bridge has its origins in the 16th Century? And\, about 15 million Americans age 45 and over know how to play and about 5 million of them play at least a few times a year. Kinda’ nifty\, huh? Now my exposure to this game started when I was a mere lad. My folks loved the game and attempted to teach me to play. Unfortunately I was more eager to continue my clandestine assignation with GI Joe and Ken (stolen from my sister) who were carrying on a torrid affair unbeknownst to poor Barbie (also stolen from my sister).  But enough about that. Back to bridge. PTKC has a monthly bridge group on the second Thursday of each month.  Games are held at Jim Wright’s home and\, even better\, all skill levels are welcome to join in. SUMMARY:Lunch at Pegah's Restaurant - Shawnee
DESCRIPTION:Ah\, the appeal of Pegah’s in Shawnee. Sure\, the food is pretty darn good and plentiful. Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that. \nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. So\, join us! \nGentlemen\, as a reminder\, we encourage you to protect yourself and fellow Prime Timers by getting the latest flu and Covid vaccines. Thanks\, guys.

DESCRIPTION:Now I’m intrigued by this fine restaurant in Kansas City’s Freight District. Established in 2010\, Grünauer offers Austrian and Central European cuisine. But what really intrigues me? I can’t pronounce a single item on their wonderful menu. I plan to drive our wait person crazy by asking this poor soul to properly pronounce each dish. But the menu descriptions are incredibly appetizing and I certainly plan to indulge myself. Now this place isn’t cheap\, fellas. But we all deserve to treat ourselves every now and then. I think Grünauer is one such establishment to do that and enjoy a splendid meal and companionship.\nStay healthy guys and we’ll see you there!

DESCRIPTION:It’s the much beloved Two-Fer Movie Night at Sam and Jim’s in Leawood! Two movies will be shown simultaneously in their spacious residence and you can choose which one appeals to you.\nUpstairs we will see the 1959 movie “Some Like It Hot” (OK so it is in Black and White)\, staring Marilyn Monroe\, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. It runs for 120 minutes. Set in the Prohibition era\, the film is about two musicians (Curtis and Lemmon) who disguise themselves as women to escape Chicago mobsters they witnessed commit murder. This The film received six Academy Award nominations\, including Best Actor\, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay\, winning for Best Costume Design. \nDownstairs we will see “HIDDEN MASTER: THE LEGACY OF GEORGE PLATT LYNES“. This is an interesting and entertaining documentary on several levels. First\, it shows what gay life was like through the 1930s up until the mid-1950s when George died. Second\, the film contains many photos of beautiful nude men\, back and front with a few erections. The film runs for 95 minutes. It gets a 100% favorable review on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6 rating on IMDB.SYNOPSIS: The life and legacy of pioneering artist George Platt Lynes\, who took radically explicit photographs of the male nude. The documentary reveals Lynes’ gifted eye for the male form\, his long-term friendships with Gertrude Stein and Alfred Kinsey\, and his lasting influence as one of the first openly gay American artists. The film contains interviews with some of his still surviving subjects and friends. \nOur hosts graciously provide popcorn\, a few nibbles\, water and ice tea so BYOB if you’re so inclined. They also serve really good sammies! The always friendly staff custom prepares your meal while you’re standing there and the menu names are fun and intriguing. From “Welcome Back Cobber” to “Play Gloria” it’s pretty much up to you.
