DESCRIPTION:Ah\, the appeal of Pegah’s in Shawnee. Sure\, the food is pretty darn good and plentiful. Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that. \nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. Their next event is on Friday\, February 5th and it’s called “Pimps & Preachers: The Misconception of Empathy and its Power.” The speaker is Dr. Nicole Price\, Founder – Lively Paradox. She will discuss the at times complex aspects of feeling someone’s pain. Is empathy about feeling someone’s pain — or understanding their perspective or does it depends on who’s using it… and why? In this bold\, no-holds-barred session\, Dr. Price unpacks the two core types of empathy: affective empathy (feeling with others) and cognitive empathy— what hostage negotiators call tactical empathy (understanding others to influence outcomes). Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that. \nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry.
