DESCRIPTION:Ah\, the appeal of Pegah’s in Shawnee. Sure\, the food is pretty darn good and plentiful. Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that. \nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. Mike arranged with Bruce Winter\, aka Melinda Ryder\, to take us on a private tour of her exhibit “Arrive as a star\, leave as a star” at the Museum of Kansas City on Saturday\, June 14 at 11:00 AM. This one-of-a kind exhibit highlights Melinda’s 50 year career as a drag artist in our city.  The tour is limited to 20 people and PTKC will pick up the tab. Afterwards\, we can grab a bite at the museum’s soda fountain and café called The Elixer and take in other exhibits at this spectacularly restored\, once privately owned mansion known as Corinthian Hall. DESCRIPTION:A sad\, very sad riff on the opening song from the musical\, “Oklahoma.” Yeah\, I had a serious crush on Gordon MacGrae who played Curly in the movie version.\n“We’re watchin’ two movies in Leawood. We’re watchin’ two movies in Leawood. There’s popcorn a-plenty and much to imbibe…..just don’t let Jim’s snoring disturb this great vibe!” (We love ‘ya\, Jim! )\nIt’s the much beloved Two-Fer Movie Night at Sam and Jim’s in Leawood!  Two movies will be shown simultaneously in their spacious residence and you can choose which one appeals to you. Now showing downstairs is the movie Great Freedom. This 2021 drama film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and other international awards. It takes place in post-war Germany. A gay man\, Hans\, played by actor Franz Rogowski is jailed for his homosexuality and is repeatedly imprisoned for his “crimes.”  As Hans returns to prison he develops an unlikely bond with his cellmate Viktor\, a convicted murderer.  What begins as revulsion by Viktor blossoms over time into something more tender.  This film is not rated but contains graphic male nudity\, strong sexual content\, graphic drug use and suicide. The film has a 7.5 IMDB rating and has a high score of 97%/91% critic/audience rating with Fresh Tomatoes! The film is in German with English subtitles. Our collective thanks to Jim Kogel and Larry Harmon for this fine recommendation.\nNow for the upstairs flick\, well\, you’ll have to wait a bit until someone tells me what it is. Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that. \nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. DESCRIPTION:So\, before we chat about bridge\, did you know that contract bridge has its origins in the 16th Century? And\, about 15 million Americans age 45 and over know how to play and about 5 million of them play at least a few times a year. Kinda’ nifty\, huh? Now my exposure to this game started when I was a mere lad. My folks loved the game and attempted to teach me to play. Unfortunately I was more eager to continue my clandestine assignation with GI Joe and Ken (stolen from my sister) who were carrying on a torrid affair unbeknownst to poor Barbie (also stolen from my sister).  But enough about that. Back to bridge. PTKC has a monthly bridge group on the second Thursday of each month.  Games are held at Jim Wright’s home and\, even better\, all skill levels are welcome to join in. Want to join the game? Just keep an eagle eye out for the Punchbowl invitation from Jim!\nSame stuff about vaccines\, guys. DESCRIPTION:Now this should be fun! We’re booking a one hour tour of the famous J. Rieger Distillery in the West Bottoms followed by dinner at Knuckleheads. Founded in 1887 by Jacob Rieger\, it is still managed by a great-great-great grandson and Andy Rieger is the youthful CEO. In 2014\, Rieger quit his job in Dallas and moved back to Kansas City\, took a leap of faith and spent $20 million on resurrecting the distillery.  I don’t know about you\, but for a young guy\, that’s damn impressive! After the tour (for those who can still stand upright) we’re hoofing it across the street to Knuckleheads for dinner.\nWe are doing the one hour private Heritage Tour at 5 PM. It includes a tasting of their four core spirits. We’ve purchased 18 spaces and we ask you gents to pay us before the tour. The per person amount is $30.00. You guys know the drill; cash or checks are fine. Plastic? Just get in touch with our esteemed Treasurer\, Doug Pittack. Just please remember that if you buy a ticket and are unable to attend\, we are cannot refund the amount. Oh\, last thing. J.
