SUMMARY:Happy Hour Dinner - Corner Cafe in Riverside!
DESCRIPTION:Man\, is this a study in contrasts or what? Last week\, we dined at Grand Street Cafe and tonight we’re imbibing and dining at Corner Cafe in Riverside! Casual\, comfortable and operating since 1983. Now interestingly enough\, there had always been a small restaurant at the “Corner” in Riverside\, Missouri\, but before 1983 it had changed names and hands several times. Many of the locals wanted to see a return to the old-style cafe that had existed there. Enter Ed and Kathi Rule. They had never been in the restaurant business before\, but always felt they knew what good food was all about and their following grew into loyal customers. It’s American comfort food at its best. Burgers\, sandwiches\, salads\, grilled tenderloin – there’s something there for everyone at reasonable prices. I\, for one\, would never say no to a world-class Rueben! \nYou’ll enjoy this place and we’d love to see you there! Join us\, guys.

SUMMARY:Coffee Talk @ Denny's
DESCRIPTION:Now a couple of things about this Denny’s on Shawnee Mission Parkway. First off\, the wait staff absolutely loves us! Second\, they give us a private room. Pretty cool\, huh? Sure\, it’s not haute cuisine but that doesn’t matter. There’s plenty of reasonably priced breakfast/brunch dishes on the menu. We usually have a great crowd here and the conversation is lively. You’ll enjoy it. So\, join us! \nGentlemen\, as a reminder\, we encourage you to protect yourself and fellow Prime Timers by getting the latest flu and Covid vaccines. Let’s stay healthy together. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Dinner at Crushed Red in Overland Park
DESCRIPTION:Okay. I’m gonna apologize up front for what follows and to anyone who appeared in the musical\, “Gypsy.”\n“Lettuce entertain you!” “Lettuce drive you wild!” “We’re gonna eat some salad and maybe sing a ballad\, ’cause we know you’re versatile!!”\nSo\, Crushed Red is a really good place to grab a bite. Yeah\, you’re going to eat greens but you can dress ’em up with all types of tasty toppings and mix ins! Sam\, Jim Wright and Doug really love this place (so please blame them). They also serve really good sammies! The always friendly staff custom prepares your meal while you’re standing there and the menu names are fun and intriguing. From “Welcome Back Cobber” to “Play Gloria” it’s pretty much up to you. Just check out their menu.\n“And\, if you’re real good\, I’ll make you feel good I want your spirit to climb!” “So lettuce entertain you!” “We’ll have a real good time\, yes sir!” \n‘We’ll have a real good time!”\nBe there!\n  \n\n \n  \n

SUMMARY:FYI: Jonathan Capehart at The Kansas City Library
DESCRIPTION:Prime Timers Kansas City is pleased (okay\, I’m thrilled!) to announce a little something new. On an ongoing basis\, we’re going to post different events happening in the area. This differs from our scheduled and painstakingly planned (c’mon\, no jokes!) normal outings and is more an opportunity to attend various activities on an informal basis\, no Punchbowl notices required. Instead\, call a few friends and make a night of it or simply fly solo if you’re so inclined. Accordingly\, we’re calling this “little something new” FYI. \nOn June 6 Jonathan Capehart is appearing at The Kansas City Library; Plaza Branch. There’s a reception at 5:30 PM and the program begins at 6:00. Mr. Capehart will discuss his new book\, Yet here I am. This book discusses his life as a gay Black man and the internship that led him to a Pulitzer-Prize winning career in journalism and his position as Associate Editor of the Washington Post. \nUse the link in this notice to RSVP on the library website. This event is free and is definitely worth attending! Stay healthy\, fellas\, and enjoy it! \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Contract Bridge Night
DESCRIPTION:So\, before we chat about bridge\, did you know that contract bridge has its origins in the 16th Century? And\, about 15 million Americans age 45 and over know how to play and about 5 million of them play at least a few times a year. Kinda’ nifty\, huh? Now my exposure to this game started when I was a mere lad. My folks loved the game and attempted to teach me to play. Unfortunately I was more eager to continue my clandestine assignation with GI Joe and Ken (stolen from my sister) who were carrying on a torrid affair unbeknownst to poor Barbie (also stolen from my sister).  But enough about that. Back to bridge. PTKC has a monthly bridge group on the second Thursday of each month.  Games are held at Jim Wright’s home and\, even better\, all skill levels are welcome to join in. Want to join the game? Just keep an eagle eye out for the Punchbowl invitation from Jim!\nSame stuff about vaccines\, guys. Be aware\, please\, of your respective vaccination status and let’s keep everyone healthy.\n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Lunch at Pegah's Restaurant - Shawnee
DESCRIPTION:Ah\, the appeal of Pegah’s in Shawnee. Sure\, the food is pretty darn good and plentiful. Yeah\, the coffee is hot and reasonably potent (I’m lookin’ at you\, Denny’s!) and we get a semi-private (well\, sort of) back room. But the real charm of the place is when our favorite waitress snarls at us\, “Hey old men – are you ready to order?!” You cannot put a price on that. \nClearly we really like this eatery as evidenced by the fact we all tend to hang around way past 1:30. We have a large crowd of PTKC’ers every Friday so it’s worth the jaunt. Parking can be a little tight but you’ll find a space – not to worry. So\, join us! \nGentlemen\, as a reminder\, we encourage you to protect yourself and fellow Prime Timers by getting the latest flu and Covid vaccines. Thanks\, guys.

SUMMARY:PTKC Mixer - At Missie B's & Dinner

It’s not just a place to grab a drink\, it’s an experience! So\, join your fellow KCPT’ers to celebrate the end of the week and the start of the weekend. SUMMARY:"Arrive as a star\, leave as a star" Private tour at The Museum of Kansas City
DESCRIPTION:Now this is something special and you have your fellow PTKC’er and board member\, Mike Sugnet\, to thank! Mike arranged with Bruce Winter\, aka Melinda Ryder\, to take us on a private tour of her exhibit “Arrive as a star\, leave as a star” at the Museum of Kansas City on Saturday\, June 14 at 11:00 AM. This one-of-a kind exhibit highlights Melinda’s 50 year career as a drag artist in our city.  The tour is limited to 20 people and PTKC will pick up the tab. Afterwards\, we can grab a bite at the museum’s soda fountain and café called The Elixer and take in other exhibits at this spectacularly restored\, once privately owned mansion known as Corinthian Hall. Trust me\, it’s worth it! Let’s rendezvous at 10:45 AM at the main entrance. \nKeep an eagle eye out for the Punchbowl invite to sign up!  Stay healthy\, fellas\, and join us! \n  \n \n  \n  \n
