Two movies will be shown simultaneously in their spacious residence and you can choose which one appeals to you.\nUpstairs we will see the 1959 movie “Some Like It Hot” (OK so it is in Black and White)\, staring Marilyn Monroe\, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. It runs for 120 minutes. Set in the Prohibition era\, the film is about two musicians (Curtis and Lemmon) who disguise themselves as women to escape Chicago mobsters they witnessed commit murder. This The film received six Academy Award nominations\, including Best Actor\, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay\, winning for Best Costume Design. \nDownstairs we will see “HIDDEN MASTER: THE LEGACY OF GEORGE PLATT LYNES“. This is an interesting and entertaining documentary on several levels. First\, it shows what gay life was like through the 1930s up until the mid-1950s when George died. Second\, the film contains many photos of beautiful nude men\, back and front with a few erections. The film runs for 95 minutes. It gets a 100% favorable review on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.6 rating on IMDB.SYNOPSIS: The life and legacy of pioneering artist George Platt Lynes\, who took radically explicit photographs of the male nude. The documentary reveals Lynes’ gifted eye for the male form\, his long-term friendships with Gertrude Stein and Alfred Kinsey\, and his lasting influence as one of the first openly gay American artists. The film contains interviews with some of his still surviving subjects and friends. \nOur hosts graciously provide popcorn\, a few nibbles\, water and ice tea so BYOB if you’re so inclined. It’s a black comedy fantasy film directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis and starring Meryl Streep\, Goldie Hawn\, Bruce Willis\, and Isabella Rossellini. Its plot follows two women who drink a magic potion that promises eternal youth with surprising consequences. I mean\, c’mon! What a cast! If you haven’t seen it I promise you’re gonna love it.\nNow showing downstairs is Unicorns. Unicorns is a drama directed by James Krishna Floyd and Sally El Hosaini\, released in 2024. The film stars Ben Hardy as Luke\, a single father and mechanic who is forced to question his sexual identity when he unexpectedly falls in love with Aysha (Jason Patel)\, a drag queen. The film premiered in the Special Presentations program at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival to great fanfare. We’re watchin’ two movies in Leawood. There’s popcorn a-plenty and much to imbibe…..just don’t let Jim’s snoring disturb this great vibe!” (We love ‘ya\, Jim! )\nIt’s the much beloved Two-Fer Movie Night at Sam and Jim’s in Leawood!  Two movies will be shown simultaneously in their spacious residence and you can choose which one appeals to you. Now showing downstairs is the movie Great Freedom. This 2021 drama film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and other international awards. It takes place in post-war Germany. A gay man\, Hans\, played by actor Franz Rogowski is jailed for his homosexuality and is repeatedly imprisoned for his “crimes.”  As Hans returns to prison he develops an unlikely bond with his cellmate Viktor\, a convicted murderer.  What begins as revulsion by Viktor blossoms over time into something more tender.  This film is not rated but contains graphic male nudity\, strong sexual content\, graphic drug use and suicide. The film has a 7.5 IMDB rating and has a high score of 97%/91% critic/audience rating with Fresh Tomatoes! The film is in German with English subtitles. DESCRIPTION:So\, before we chat about bridge\, did you know that contract bridge has its origins in the 16th Century? And\, about 15 million Americans age 45 and over know how to play and about 5 million of them play at least a few times a year. Kinda’ nifty\, huh? Now my exposure to this game started when I was a mere lad. My folks loved the game and attempted to teach me to play. Unfortunately I was more eager to continue my clandestine assignation with GI Joe and Ken (stolen from my sister) who were carrying on a torrid affair unbeknownst to poor Barbie (also stolen from my sister).  But enough about that. Back to bridge. PTKC has a monthly bridge group on the second Thursday of each month.  Games are held at Jim Wright’s home and\, even better\, all skill levels are welcome to join in. Want to join the game? Just keep an eagle eye out for the Punchbowl invitation from Jim!\nSame stuff about vaccines\, guys. Be aware\, please\, of your respective vaccination status and let’s keep everyone healthy.\n \n  \n  \n
