JustUs Health Presents the Fourth Annual Opportunity Conference on April 18th and 20th

Conference Works to Advance LGBTQ & HIV Health

Building on the success of its past conferences, JustUs Health announced today that its Fourth Annual Opportunity Conference will be held over two days in April. For the first time, this year’s conference will directly engage LGBTQ and HIV- positive community members in addition to the organization’s historic emphasis on health care professionals. The new community day will be on Saturday, April 18th at Minneapolis Community Technical College, while the professional day will follow on Monday, April 20th at the Earle Brown Heritage Center.

The Opportunity Conference continues to be a major project hosted by JustUs Health to advance health equity, and will focus on four topics: aging, HIV and/or AIDS treatment and prevention, transgender health, and general LGBTQ health. The professional day of the conference will continue to focus on policy makers, practitioners, and providers who work in health care or for supportive care systems and will feature a keynote address by Sean Cahill, Director of Health Policy Research at the Fenway Institute in Boston. The program will provide six Continuing Education Credits (CEUs)* for professionals who are looking

for education programs that meet the Minnesota Medical Association or Minnesota Board of Social Work curriculum standards.

“Each year, we train hundreds of professionals on the complexity of health equity issues within the LGBTQ community, those living with HIV and/or AIDS, and about elders in our communities who are facing incredible challenges of growing older as part of a marginalized population,” said Phil Duran, Director of Advocacy, Research and Education for JustUs Health.

“This year, we’re responding to community interest by expanding the conference to members of the public who are passionate advocates for justice. It’s critical to engage both providers and consumers in the work of advancing health equity.”

Tickets for the Opportunity Conference community day may be purchased online in advance for $10 per person (scholarships in cases of hardship are available). Participants have the option of adding a meal pass for the day.

Early Bird registration for the professional day is available before March 9th at a reduced rate of $120 per person. On March 10th and later, registration for the conference will be $150 per person. A discounted rate of $75 per person is available for students. **

Complete registration information, an overview of speakers, session topics and schedules for the both the community and professional days are available at OpportunityConference.org.
