For the first time\, this year’s conference will directly engage LGBTQ and HIV- positive community members in addition to the organization’s historic emphasis on health care professionals. The new community day will be on Saturday\, April 18th at Minneapolis Community Technical College\, while the professional day will follow on Monday\, April 20th at the Earle Brown Heritage Center. \nThe Opportunity Conference continues to be a major project hosted by JustUs Health to advance health equity\, and will focus on four topics: aging\, HIV and/or AIDS treatment and prevention\, transgender health\, and general LGBTQ health. The professional day of the conference will continue to focus on policy makers\, practitioners\, and providers who work in health care or for supportive care systems and will feature a keynote address by Sean Cahill\, Director of Health Policy Research at the Fenway Institute in Boston. The program will provide six Continuing Education Credits (CEUs)* for professionals who are looking \n\n\nfor education programs that meet the Minnesota Medical Association or Minnesota Board of Social Work curriculum standards. \n“Each year\, we train hundreds of professionals on the complexity of health equity issues within the LGBTQ community\, those living with HIV and/or AIDS\, and about elders in our communities who are facing incredible challenges of growing older as part of a marginalized population\,” said Phil Duran\, Director of Advocacy\, Research and Education for JustUs Health. \n“This year\, we’re responding to community interest by expanding the conference to members of the public who are passionate advocates for justice. It’s critical to engage both providers and consumers in the work of advancing health equity.” \nTickets for the Opportunity Conference community day may be purchased online in advance for $10 per person (scholarships in cases of hardship are available). When failed poet and full-time barista Bill Badamore meets James Alan at the annual OctoBear Dance at the local VFW\, he is overwhelmed. James\, a surly and secretive amputee\, seems to be everything that Bill has ever wanted in a lover\, and their chemistry is incendiary. But after a tumultuous six months together\, James abruptly ends their relationship. Lost and forlorn\, Bill recalls his life\, his failed romance with the troubled James\, and his discovery of true love with a courageous playwright in the wake of heartbreak. Luczak explores a number of significant themes in these rambling ruminations\, including living with disability and finding one’s true self within a repressive masculine culture. Unfortunately\, the utter devotion to emulating Barnes’s style often leaves the prose feeling belabored\, and some of the book’s impact is lost beneath the waves of references\, quotes\, and digressions. This experiment is not unsuccessful\, but only fans of interwar modernist queer literature are likely to really dig it. \n\n\n \n\n\nPublishers Weekly

It is also near 35W. There is a parking lot in the front\, and the space is disability accessible including the restrooms. \nThe building has a secure entrance. Someone in the group will be in the lobby to let you in from the vestibule\, or you can call Don on the intercom keypad. Visitors are asked to sign the guestbook. The spacious room has a kitchen with a pass-through\, plenty of tables and seating\, and features a patio\, pool table and fireplace.
