We’ll meet at 1461 Scrubgrass Road\, Scott Township. \nDiscover the historical significance of the Kane Woods Nature Area\, a 72-acre preserve featuring two miles of trails. \nThe nature area commemorates the Whiskey Rebellion\, a pivotal moment in U.S. history. In 1794\, facing Revolutionary War debt\, President George Washington enacted a whiskey tax. When local farmers\, whose income heavily relied on whiskey production\, resisted\, they formed an angry mob. They descended upon General John Neville’s estate on Bower Hill\, burning his mansion and other buildings to the ground. In response\, Washington dispatched 13\,000 troops to quell what became known as the Whiskey Rebellion. A historical marker near the trails commemorates the infamous march of the “Whiskey Boys.” \nTrailhead: 1461 Scrubgrass Road\, Scott Township Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate \nDon’t Miss: The Mother Tree \nBe sure to see The Mother Tree\, an enormous red oak on the JCC Trail. This impressive tree is approximately 52 inches in diameter and is officially dated by the state forestry department to be 200-250 years old.
