DESCRIPTION:St. Louis did not invent the hamburger\, but it catapulted it onto the national scene when 20 million people came to the 1904 World’s Fair where hamburgers were being served.  The hamburger survived the meatpacking scandals of the early 20th Century\, and now they are an iconic food.  St Louis has several different ways of cooking burgers\, and several different styles of burgers\, and several choices of what kind of patty is used.  Chuck-A-Burger has been here for over 70 years\, the White Barn says its burgers are legendary\, and steakburgers have become national thanks to Daniel Meyers.  And\, you can get a St. Louis Burger in any large town in Iceland.  This talk will also cover the love story where hamburgers saved a silent movie star’s marriage. \nAll Prime Timers will be emailed a Zoom link for this free talk. \nJuly 24\, 7:00pm – 8:00pm \n

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the Whitaker Music Festival held at the Missouri Botanical Garden and hosted by John Carroll and Phil Egart\, on our calendar for Wednesday\, July 24\, beginning at 7:00pm.  See link to the website below. \nEnjoy live jazz music under the stars!  Just bring folding chairs or a blanket with a cooler for drinks and food (no bottles) and relax. It’s crowded\, so Phil and John will arrive early to save us a spot. Please click on RSVP so that John and Phil will know who to look for. This free event starts at 7:00pm\, finishing up at 9:45pm\, and can be rained out with bad weather.  There is ample free parking on the lot\, the multi-modal lots across from Gringo Jones\, or on Alfred or Vandeventer streets. So come and have a good time!
