SUMMARY:FREE ZOOM TALK: “INS AND OUTS OF HAMBURGERS IN ST. LOUIS”
DESCRIPTION:St. Louis did not invent the hamburger\, but it catapulted it onto the national scene when 20 million people came to the 1904 World’s Fair where hamburgers were being served.  The hamburger survived the meatpacking scandals of the early 20th Century\, and now they are an iconic food.  St Louis has several different ways of cooking burgers\, and several different styles of burgers\, and several choices of what kind of patty is used.  Chuck-A-Burger has been here for over 70 years\, the White Barn says its burgers are legendary\, and steakburgers have become national thanks to Daniel Meyers.  And\, you can get a St. Louis Burger in any large town in Iceland.  This talk will also cover the love story where hamburgers saved a silent movie star’s marriage. \nAll Prime Timers will be emailed a Zoom link for this free talk. \nJuly 24\, 7:00pm – 8:00pm \n

SUMMARY:FREE ZOOM TALK: STONEHENGE + HENGES IN MISSOURI & AROUND THE WORLD
DESCRIPTION:Stonehenge and the Bronze Age stone circle henges of Great Britain are known for their mystery and majesty.  There is even a British stone henge that surrounds an entire village of 600 people.  Also\, there are stone circle henges in Africa\, Asia\, South America – and one Bronze Age henge that just re-appeared in Europe because of drought.  But Missouri has circle henges\, some within driving distance of St. Louis – but not all of them are made of stone.  Some of these Missouri henges were created by locals\, including: a goat farmer\, scientists\, a magician\, outdoor enthusiasts\, and even a state government – plus there are Missouri henges that may have been created 1000 years ago \n  \nAll Prime Timers will be sent the Zoom Link for this free talk by Doug Schneider.

SUMMARY:FREE ZOOM TALK: GHOST TOWNS IN MISSOURI AND BEYOND
DESCRIPTION:Find out what St. Louis Prime Timer grew up in a town that is now a ghost town! \n  \nAbandoned buildings\, paranormal folklore\, and historic relics cast an eerie and intriguing atmosphere over Missouri’s ghost towns.  Although the phrase “ghost town” might call to mind the tumbleweed-strewn roads and abandoned wooden storefronts of the Old West\, Missouri’s ghost towns tell a different tale.  A detour through these rural locales reveals stories of a changing world and devastating acts of nature.  Depopulated or simply forgotten\, many have fallen into disrepair. Others still have remnants and artifacts as proof of their former heydays.  Some maintain a sparse population with a firm hold on their heritage.  This talk will cover Missouri’s ghost towns and will look at some curious ghost towns in other states. \n  \nAll Prime Timers will be sent the Zoom Link for this free talk by Doug Schneider.
