SUMMARY:FREE ZOOM TALK: “AVIATION IN ST. LOUIS”
DESCRIPTION:Aviation has a long history in St. Louis.  In 1910 President Theodore Roosevelt came to an airport in St. Louis because he wanted to be the first President to fly in an airplane.  We started manufacturing new-fangled flying machines in 1911. A 1920 hangar now is home to horses.  St. Louis has been involved with balloon flights\, a dirigible harbor\, air taxis\, military aircraft\, escadrilles\, air circuses\, parachuters\, commercial aircraft.  We have aviation museums\, guided missile sites\, the room where Charles Lindbergh was given the money for the Spirit of St. Louis.  Doug Schneider will show how aviation has shaped St. Louis — and how St. Louis has taken to the air and shaped aviation. \nJune 4\, 7:00pm – 8:00pm \nAll Prime Timers will be emailed a Zoom link for this free talk.

SUMMARY:VISIT TO THE “MISSISSIPPI RIVER FESTIVAL EXHIBIT” AT THE MADISON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
DESCRIPTION:The Mississippi River Festival (MRF) was a summer outdoor concert series held during the years 1969-1980 on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville\, Illinois. SUMMARY:FREE ZOOM TALK: “INS AND OUTS OF HAMBURGERS IN ST. LOUIS”
DESCRIPTION:St. Louis did not invent the hamburger\, but it catapulted it onto the national scene when 20 million people came to the 1904 World’s Fair where hamburgers were being served.  The hamburger survived the meatpacking scandals of the early 20th Century\, and now they are an iconic food.  St Louis has several different ways of cooking burgers\, and several different styles of burgers\, and several choices of what kind of patty is used.  Chuck-A-Burger has been here for over 70 years\, the White Barn says its burgers are legendary\, and steakburgers have become national thanks to Daniel Meyers.  And\, you can get a St. Louis Burger in any large town in Iceland.  This talk will also cover the love story where hamburgers saved a silent movie star’s marriage. \nAll Prime Timers will be emailed a Zoom link for this free talk. \nJuly 24\, 7:00pm – 8:00pm \n
