A River Sorta Runs Through It<\/p>\n

Wichita’s relationship with the Arkansas River is a long, complicated one. From the days when it was a trade corridor and meeting ground to the city’s waste drain to a recreation hub, the Arkansas River has been a defining character in the city’s story. Wichita has loved and ignored and even abused one of its most signature features. Here’s a chance to talk about that complicated interaction.<\/p>\n

Bio:<\/p>\n

Jay M. Price is a Professor of History at Wichita State University, where he also directs the Local and Community History Program. His current works include a biography of Kansas Governor and U.S. Chief Archivist John Carlin, explorations of entrepreneurship in Wichita, and a number of architectural history projects including the reuse of masonic structures. He currently serves on the Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review, the board of The Kansas Historical Foundation, and the Kansas US 250 Commission.<\/p>\n
