Many people think of the north shore a destination, but for us last night anyway, it was a starting point. As the water splashed happily on the shore, we gathered in anticipation, our group grew to nine of whom were to make the trip. Unfortunately four members who purchased tickets for the event weren’t able to attend. Hopefully we will see them in the near future.
The blue sky was spectacular and the weather was comfortable as we were welcomed aboard the Rivers of Steel vessel. Drake sporting his nautical gear headed right to the upper deck upon boarding. Chuck and Don came prepared for the cool late summer breeze putting on light jackets as the horn sounded and the boat departed. We all sat on the rear upper deck for most of the cruise but ventured around freely taking in the sights while the crew’s host presented us a well-rehearsed oration of Pittsburgh’s historical past and present.
As the sun went down the skyline lite up under the crescent moon. Passengers became livelier as darkness grew on the sunset cruise and the city came to life. Prime Timers reacquainted themselves sharing conversations and enjoying relaxing moments as we traveled the three rivers waterways.
I captured some of the moments on my cell phone throughout the evening and posted them on the website. These and other good memories of Pittsburgh Prime Timers (That’s Pittsburgh with an “H” as our orator explained in one of the interesting uniquely Pittsburgh facts. Local historians and officials convinced the U.S. Board on Geographic Names on July 19, 1911 to use the original spelling of our great city which was dropped along with all of the other “…burg’s” in the U.S. and now Pittsburgh is the only “burgh” city to end with an “H” to this day.
I call to all prime timers to stay connected, happy and have fun in PPT’s social organization. Don’t forget to check our updated website frequently for: event times and locations, and to walk through memories of past events in our photo gallery.
