Vanka Murals Tour – St. Nicholas Croatian Church

July 18 @ 11:00 am - 4:30 pm

If These Walls Could Talk

We will tour the St Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale.

It’s not just the story of one man’s journey to America; it’s the story of all of us. Maxo Vanka’s 25 powerful murals are one of Pittsburgh’s hidden gems. Painted in two intense periods – 1937 and 1941— in a church high above Millvale, the murals’ timeless tales leave viewers awestruck.
Then we will travel to Troy Hill to tour St Anthony’s Chapel,

Saint Anthony’s Chapel, or the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua as it’s officially known, was originally built in 1880 by Friar Suitbert Mollinger, who was the pastor of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, which still sits nearby. Fr. Mollinger was born in Belgium and came to America as a missionary in 1854. He settled into the Troy Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh in 1868.
