Asian Lantern Festival

October 14, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Pittsburgh PrimeTimers lights up the Lantern Festival!

They’re back and bigger than ever! The Asian Lantern Festival returns with an all-new display, featuring guest favorites from days past.

Explore the Zoo at night among giant luminous handcrafted sculptures, including extinct and endangered animals. Learn about Asian history, culture, and enjoy themed food and entertainment.

The Chinese lantern festival originated in China as far back as 202 BC. The popular Chinese celebration influenced nearby nations like Korea and japan and has now evolved into a celebration of many countries including the US.

There are many stories about the origins of the lantern festival which include stories of love, worship, prosperity and riddles. Traditionally the festival is celebrated on a full moon to mark the end of Chinese New Year and lasts for three days.

Here in Pittsburgh the Asian Lantern festival lasts from Friday, August 12 through Sunday, October 30. The Pittsburgh Zoo’s festival lights up lanterns as tall as 30 feet high; extinct dinosaurs; giant pandas and YES there will be dragons!

Join us on Friday October 14, at 6:30 p.m. for a spectacular light display with PPT friends.

This is an outdoor event. Most indoor facilities, including the PPG Aquarium, will not be open.

Base adult ticket $22.95. Ticket prices vary and discounts are available. Tickets are online only, no cash sales. See details below.

Asian Lantern Festival tickets are only sold online at the Pittsburgh Zoo’s website.
