Ironclads, Towboats, Steamboats, Fire Boats, Fires on Steamboats, Gondolas, Cruise Ships, Paddle Boats, Canoes, Canoe Factories, Surrey Boats, Kayaks, Flatboats.  St. Louis has used water transportation for centuries, both for commerce and recreation.  Find out how Robert E. Lee improved water transportation in St. Louis.  The US Navy has a presence in St. Louis, and we used to have a Missouri State Navy.  St. Louis has had floating casinos, as well as a floating McDonalds.  Doug Schneider will take a look at all the ways St. Louis has taken to water.  And he will take a look at ferries and the numerous streets in the area that have “Ferry” in their names.

Special guest for this talk: Prime Timer John Carroll.  His great-grandfather was a riverboat captain, his grandfather was a riverboat captain, his father was a riverboat captain, and John worked on riverboats.
